Description
Operation Stoykiy was the codename for the 2287 Soviet strategic operation which led to the landing of Soviet and Confederation forces on Vega proper. The operation formed part of the ongoing Battle of the Vega System and was aimed at relieving the last remaining Vega Confederation forces who had retreated to the city of New Weimar. This was the first major Soviet operation in the Vega system since the German invasion roughly six months earlier.
In a bold maneuver, the Red Banner Sevastopol Fleet was able to jump into the system well within the outer markers and bypass the majority of Kriegsmarine defenses. On September 17th the fleet carried out several waves of landings, consisting of a Soviet Army Group, several divisions of Naval Infantry and Soviet Spaceborne Troops. A number of Confederation brigades, previously evacuated from the system in the wake of the German invasion, were also present in the initial landings.
On September 18th, a joint German-Spanish task force attempted to disrupt the orbital landings but quickly withdrew having severely underestimated the size of the Soviet fleet. Losses on either side are not public knowledge as of the time of this writing.
Unprepared for an orbital based counter-attack, Wehrmacht units on Vega were forced to disengage from their assault on New Weimar consolidate their positions. Stoykiy was considered a success by the Soviet Union, however the secondary objective of encircling Army Group South was not fulfilled before the Germans were able to retreat.
